Peter sent me some stills from the films as well as a hand-written letter I wrote him when I finished the music for C.C. I had to put the CD in the mail so he could cue it up with the film. So have a gander at those.

about

This is a collection of film music I've done over the years for director Peter Bolte. Unearthed recently, I decided to "master" selected tracks myself in Logic. The tracks from V.O. (2005) are extras that didn't make it on to my Four Films disc on Tzadik. If you have that one you'll recognize some themes and orchestration here.

Peter Bolte: "V.O. was my first fiction short film. And, it is flawed as such. But just like a child, you work very hard to repress the traumatic issues you had raising it. Yet (hopefully) still end up loving it in the end. I had some amazing, talented friends help this project come to life and in that, I would not change a thing. Well, maybe just a few things."

I took a few short cues from Peter's film Never A Shade of Gray (2012) and edited them into a mini-suite. Most of the cues from that film are extremely short and similar and wouldn't make a good listening experience on their own. But here, you get the gist in under 3 minutes.

Consuming Capitalism (2003) was an experimental project for both Peter and myself. It was, in fact, the first time I was hired to write music for a visual element and the first time the two of us worked together. The film itself is somewhat abstract with no dialogue so I had a lot of space to cover. I recorded the music on my first digital work station which was an 8-track disc machine. I had zero editing chops and you can hear it. Nothing was done with click, so it's a little loose. There are also some mixing and digital artifact issues that I was unable to remedy as I was mastering from a stereo wav file. Still, there are many things I like about this collection.

Peter Bolte: " This film came about with aspirations to address several economic, environmental, and socio-political issues. Looking back this project becomes more of a personal understanding of why I made the transition from painting into making films. Collaboration. You learn more than you ever will when you begin to listen, react and then balance out a concept through several minds centered around one vision."
